Parking Changes to Take Effect on Campus Sept. 8
The upcoming construction of the 9615 Medical Center Drive project on campus will affect access to parking lots.
As of Friday, Sept. 8, the parking lot in front of Gilchrist Hall and the A/R Building will be closed, with the exception of 12 handicapped parking spaces in the lot between those two buildings. Motorists may enter campus from Medical Center Drive to reach the 12 handicapped spaces in the lot between Gilchrist and A/R. (These are the spaces closest to Gilchrist Hall.)
More handicapped spaces, as well as general parking, will be available behind Gilchrist Hall and the A/R Building, as well as in the lot adjacent to Building III (9605 Medical Center Drive). Drivers are encouraged to access these lots from Broschart Road. Access from Medical Center Drive is permitted, but motorists will be unable to drive through the lot in front of Gilchrist and A/R and will have to go around Building III to reach the Broschart Road parking spaces.
Drivers will not be able to access the Johns Hopkins campus from Blackwell Road, although staff and visitors to the NCI will be able to access the parking garage.
The planned 70,000-square-foot building will be on the east side of the campus, between the university’s buildings and a National Cancer Institute parking deck. The new building will be developed and owned by an affiliate of JBG Smith., which has leased the ground from Johns Hopkins. JBG Smith plans to start construction this fall. The project completion date is scheduled for June 2019.
