High School Photography Show Goes Virtual

show graphic

Circumstances surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak added a few additional challenges to  the fifth annual Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus photography show. The stay-at-home directives forced creative thinking to ensure the show could go on.

The jury met remotely to view and select pieces for the show from those submitted. Instead of the usual opening reception and awards presentation, the full show is revealed in the 2020 Movement Photo Gallery.

Of the 178 works submitted, 63 were selected to the show. Six students won prizes.

Congratulations to the artists and their teachers! Award winners are listed below:

First Place: Sierra Eltermann - Northwest High School

Second Place: Eva McDonough - Montgomery Blair High School

Third Place: Megan Hofmeister - Northwest High School

Honorable Mention:  Jessica Brandsdorfer - Quince Orchard High School

Elizabeth Cervantes - Quince Orchard High School

The virtual exhibit is one of JHU’s programs designed to get young people excited about STEAM education. The A in STEAM is for “art,” an important component of a well-rounded student’s education. (STEAM is an acronym for Science-Technology-Engineering- Art-Mathematics.)
