Farmers Market Returns for Ninth Season at Johns Hopkins
The Shady Grove Farmers Market is returning for its ninth season at the Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus.
The lunchtime market will be held 11 a.m. – 2 p.m. Wednesdays, May 15 through Sept. 11.
Local farmers have booths at the market and sell vegetables, fruit, meat and eggs. Other vendors sell cookies, bread, jewelry and wine.
Food trucks featuring several local eateries come out to serve the lunchtime crowd. Tables and chairs are set up under a tent outside so patrons can enjoy an outdoor lunch.
The market is located in the JHU parking lot at the corner of Key West Avenue and Broschart Road. Parking is free.
Cash, credit cards and Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program payment methods are accepted.
Among new features expected this season are:
- Remember Nhu, a child-traffic prevention organization. Representatives will be at the market to educate about this issue.
- Eat the Rainbow Farm. This group, dedicated to growing vegetables naturally without chemical pesticides, will sell produce.
- An increase in the WIC and Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP) matching dollars. Matching dollars are free market tokens given out at the welcome booth to WIC and SNAP recipients. The tokens can be spent at any farm stand.
The market is sponsored by the Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus.
