Crews Serves Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce Board of Directors

Photo of Barbara CrewsBarbara Crews, assistant executive director for community relations at the Johns Hopkins University Montgomery County Campus, has been appointed to an executive committee position with the Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce board of directors.

Crews will serve a yearlong term as vice chair for member recruitment and retention. In this role, she will help the chamber recruit new members and retain existing ones. She will help existing members get the most out of their memberships by engaging them in chamber activities.

“By being a member of the chamber, JHU is giving back to the community” Crews said. “Being a member has strengthened our relationships with Montgomery College and Universities at Shady Grove as we collaborate on educational events that benefit Montgomery County students of all ages.”

Crews has been active with the chamber since 2014.

The campus is a corporate sponsor of the chamber and is a sponsor of the annual dinner and public safety awards breakfast. In addition, the campus holds a Business Networking Before Nine event each year, where approximately 50 chamber members and prospective members mingle and make connections.

Crews, who works closely with the tenants on the JHU campus, said in her role on the chamber she learns about networking and business development opportunities that, in turn, she can share with the entrepreneurs on campus.

The Gaithersburg-Germantown Chamber of Commerce is an organization of 400 members, including colleges and universities, biotech firms, manufacturing companies, real estate development organizations, restaurants and hotels. The chamber is committed to business/community partnerships in education and other areas of mutual interest.
