We are proud of our collaborations with local community organizations and are proud to support education, the bioscience industry and economic development in Montgomery County. We have strong relationships with Montgomery County Public Schools, Gaithersburg Book Festival, BioBuzz, MD Bio, Rockville Science Center, Montgomery County Chamber of Commerce and the Gaithersburg Germantown Chamber of Commerce, among other organizations.
Our K-12 outreach includes Brownie troop visits in our wet lab and hands-on science experiences for seventh graders; high school student engineering and writing summer camps; and annual art and photography shows for high school students. Our campus hosts an annual bread baking event for fourth-graders so they learn the chemistry of bread baking and the importance of giving back to the community. The campus also plays a vital role in Frontiers in Science and Medicine Day for seventh graders.
For retired and semi-retired professionals, we are the site of Osher at JHU. The Osher Lifelong Learning Institute offers noncredit courses in a variety of topics, including art, politics, literature, history, music, science and current events. Osher members can also participate in social events designed just for them.
The campus supports a vibrant arts program that features rotating. Past exhibits have featured artists from local high schools, Montgomery College, Leadership Montgomery, Osher at JHU and the Hispanic community. Learn more about our Arts Program.
The campus is the site of the weekly Shady Grove Farmers’ & Artisans’ Market from May through September.
